27 May 2005 | - 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit

In today’s close combat environment, artillery battery Marines very often find themselves tasked as provisional rifle companies serving in much the same capacity as their infantry counterparts. But when it comes down to it, there is little these Marines enjoy more than sending high explosive 155mm rounds down range from the M198 medium-towed Howitzer.Marines from India Battery, 3rd Battalion 10th Marines, attached to Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Bn, 8th Marines, did just that recently during 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s (Special Operations Capable) live-fire exercise at Udairi Range near Camp Buehring, Kuwait. As the theater reserve for Central Command, Marines and Sailors of the 26th MEU (SOC) are conducting air and ground combat exercises at the range in preparation for potential follow-on missions in the region.
