Camp Lejeune, North Carolina -- CAMP LEJEUNE, NC – The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) composited as a Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF), May 8, 2019, and will spend approximately the next six months conducting pre-deployment training in order to prepare for an overseas deployment later this year.
The 26th MEU, commanded by Col. Trevor Hall, is comprised of approximately 2,200 Marines and Sailors. The MEU’s major subordinate elements are Battalion Landing Team 2d Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment (BLT 2/8), Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 365 (Reinforced) and Combat Logistics Battalion (CLB) 26.
“We have a rigorous pre-deployment training program ahead of us, which will build confidence and aptitude within the command element and major subordinate elements,” Hall said. “Additionally, and equally as important, the training program will enhance our ability to integrate as a MAGTF so we can rapidly respond to any crisis or contingency. The strength of the MAGTF team is greater than the sum of the individual parts,” said Hall.
MEUs operate continuously across the globe and provide the president and the geographic combatant commanders with a forward-deployed, flexible and responsive sea-based MAGTF. The 26th MEU is one of three based on the East Coast. The 26th MEU is expected to forward-deploy and rapidly respond to a variety of situations – ranging from full-scale combat operations to foreign humanitarian assistance and theater security cooperation exercises with allies and partner nations.
