13 Sep 2017
U.S. Marines with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and Sailors with Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group 2 (EODGRU2), in coordination with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, staged and distributed relief supplies in Key West, Sept. 12, 2017.

The Marines and Sailors flew ashore from USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) aboard U.S. Marine Corps CH-53E Super Stallions and U.S. Navy MH-60S Seahawks. The aircraft also delivered more than 52,000 pounds of supplies and equipment to Key West today, including much-needed drinking water.

The 26th MEU transported wheeled vehicles from USS Iwo Jima to Key West via Landing Craft Utility (LCU), including three Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacements (MTVR), one Front End Loader, and one High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV).

The 26th MEU and EODGRU2 delivered approximately 270 cases of water to citizens of Key West today and staged further supplies at NAS Key West in anticipation of Defense Support of Civil Authorities tasking and support to FEMA.

The blue-green team is part of a coordinated Department of Defense response in support of FEMA, state and local response efforts in the wake of Hurricane Irma.
