An MV-22 Osprey, assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 162 (VMM-162) Reinforced, 2nd Marine Air Wing (2nd MAW), lifts a simulated casualty during hoist operations in Norfolk, Virginia, Nov. 1, 2022. The purpose of this training is to enhance evacuation capabilities of personnel utilizing the MV-22 Osprey in the event of a military or civilian mishap at sea. The ability to hoist stranded individuals from the water with tiltrotor aircraft provides additional life-saving response options for the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 162 (VMM-162) Reinforced, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW), integrated with special operations forces (SOF) to strengthen MEU-SOF relationships prior to VMM-162’s upcoming deployment as the aviation combat element for the 26th MEU.
