U.S. Marine Corps 1st Lt. Ian S. Simpson, center, a platoon commander, and Lance Cpl. Abel J. Mendoza, a combat engineer, both with Combat Engineer Platoon, Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), clear debris and trash off a parking lot where a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) operations center will be located to provide aid to victims of Hurricane Maria in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, Oct. 4, 2017. The 26th MEU is supporting FEMA, the lead federal agency, in helping those affected by Hurricane Maria to minimize suffering and is one component of the overall whole-of-government response effort.
