A Sailor assigned to USS Bataan (LHD 5) assesses the severity of the notional injury of Lance Cpl. Christopher Rainford, a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear defense specialist assigned to 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), during a mass casualty exercise aboard the USS Bataan off the coast of North Carolina, Dec. 14, 2012. The exercise was conducted to familiarize Marines and Sailors on proper techniques of triaging in a deployed environment. The 26th MEU operates continuously across the globe, providing the president and unified combatant commanders with a forward-deployed, sea-based quick reaction force. The MEU is a Marine Air-Ground Task Force capable of conducting amphibious operations, crisis response, and limited contingency operations. They are slated to deploy in 2013.
