Petty Officer 2nd Class Tawanna Anderson, a sailor aboard USS Kearsarge, reads a letter and drawing by school children in North Asheville Christian School of Asheville, N.C., in the mess deck of USS Kearsarge, Dec. 13, 2010. Marines with 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Kearsarge sailors received and responded to 88 letters from children of Asheville Christian and Assumption Catholic School in O’Fallon, MO. “These letters are very encouraging, and it will be something that I will keep forever," said Sgt. Deanna Parker, who responded to the letters. "One thing the girl put in the letter really stood out to me: ‘give someone a hand and you will both climb higher.’ I could just tell the girl who wrote this really put some thought into it.”
