Army Maj. Gen. William Monk III, the commanding general of the 99th Regional Support Command, prepares to throw the Veterans Day wreath into the Hudson River from the Intrepid Sea, Air, & Space Museum Nov. 11, 2009 in New York City. Honored at the ceremony were the ship’s Marines and sailors that served aboard her in the past. Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force 26 Marines were also present at the event. SPMAGTF-26 is made up of Marines from several units based in North Carolina and was formed to support the USS New York’s commissioning, which occurred Nov. 7.
