USS IWO JIMA, Arabian Gulf (Dec. 8, 2008) – Corporal Terry B. Wyatt receives a miniature American flag and letter from actor and Marine Corps icon R. Lee Ermey aboard USS Iwo Jima, Dec. 8, 2008. Wyatt and nine other 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit Marines received the flags as gifts from the residents of Elnora, Ind., for helping rescue the town from an impending flood in June. Elnora resident Heather Davis, Indiana DJ Diane House and the American Legion sent 150 flags as a token of thanks to the nearly 150 Marines who participated in the mission. Ten flags were forwarded to the ship, currently in the Arabian Gulf for the MEU and Iwo Jima Strike Group's deployment. Ten Marines were hand-picked to represent the subordinate units of the MEU. All Marines receiving flags today directly contributed to the Elnora effort. The remaining 140 flags will be distributed to Elnora mission participants when the MEU returns the Camp Lejeune in early 2009. Ermey is best known for his portrayal of hard-nosed Drill Instructor Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in Full Metal Jacket. (Official USMC photo by Cpl. Patrick M. Johnson-Campbell) (Released)
