Secretary of the Navy, the Honorable Donald C. Winter, talks to Lance Cpl. Peter Murphy of Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron-264 (REIN), 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, aboard USS Iwo Jima (LHD-7), Nov. 25, 2008. Winter visited with Marines and sailors aboard the Iwo Jima, currently deployed to the 5th Fleet Area of Operation. Winter toured the ship, met with MEU and Iwo Jima leaders and spoke to the assembled Marines and sailors. He took questions from them on how he thinks the Obama presidency will affect the military and the future of operations in 5th Fleet "I think we have to be where the challenges are," said Winter. "And right now the challenges really are here in the gulf, and the Indian Ocean and the CENTCOM AOR. That said, one of the core principals of our Navy and Marine Corps is our expeditionary capability and be able to operate effectively on the worldwide scene."
