Public Web Site for the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit

Nov 18, 2008

Explosive ordnance disposal technicians mark the occasion of Staff Sgt Donavin G. Bender's reenlistment with a resounding boom. Bender, an EOD tech with Combat Logistics Battalion-26, the Logistics Combat Element for the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, takes the Oath of Enlistment at a training range in the Middle East, Nov. 17, 2008. Bender's reenlistment set an example for EOD's younger Marines, while giving them an opportunity to perfect their explosive ordnance skills. The EOD team spent four days clearing a training range for an upcoming exercise the MEU would conduct. They discovered and destroyed hundreds of pounds of unexploded ordnance from past exercises. After their arduous work, the Marines declared the range safe for Battalion Landing Team 2/6, the Ground Combat Element for the 26th MEU, to begin training. The 26th MEU is conducting training exercises with the host nation to strengthen cooperation with regional partners. The MEU is currently deployed aboard the ships of the Iwo Jima Strike Group in the 5th Fleet Area of Operation.
