Sergeant Major Jeffrey A. Young, a native of Baltimore Maryland, enlisted and attended recruit training at Marine Corp Recruit Depot (M.C.R.D), Parris Island on November 18, 1991 and was assigned to Bravo Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion. Upon completion of recruit training and Marine Combat Training, Sergeant Major Young attended the Communication Center Operator Course in Twenty-Nine Palms, California where he earned the MOS of 2542. Additionally, he attended the Satellite Communications Operators Course earning the MOS of 2535.

After completing MOS training, Lance Corporal Young spent several years and subsequent tours with both 7th and 8th Communications Battalion where he served as Operator, Team Leader, Platoon Sergeant, and Section Chief. He was subsequently promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant throughout his tenure with these units and participated in several training and contingency exercises.

In September 2001, Staff Sergeant Young reported to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. During his tour with 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, Fox Company, he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Series Chief Drill Instructor, Martial Arts Instructor, and Martial Arts Instructor Trainer. He was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in November 2003.

In January 2005, Gunnery Sergeant Young transferred to Marine Air Control Squadron 2 (MACS-2), Cherry Point NC, were he served as Communications Chief. He Deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was selected to the rank of First Sergeant during his tour.

In May 2007, First Sergeant Young transferred to 3d Battalion 2d Marines, where he served with Company L and Headquarters and Service Company. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and with the 22d Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).

In April 2010, First Sergeant Young transferred to the Marine Corps Engineer School, where he served as Company First Sergeant, Utilities Instruction Company and Combat Engineer Instruction Company. He was selected to the rank of Sergeant Major during his tour.

In May 2012, Sergeant Major Young transferred to First Supply Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA where he served as Battalion Sergeant Major.

In July 2014, Sergeant Major Young transferred to Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, MCAS Futenma, where he served as Squadron Sergeant Major.

In April 2015, Sergeant Major Young transferred to Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Base Camp Foster, Okinawa Japan where he served as the Camp Sergeant Major, Camp Foster and Camp Lester and Headquarters and Support Battalion Sergeant Major.

In February 2017, Sergeant Major Young transferred and assumes his current billet as Sergeant Major, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Sergeant Major Young Young’s personal awards include; The Meritorious Service Medal with two gold star in lieu of third award, The Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award.
